Promotions

A promotion raises the speed of every plan, or of chosen plans, for a while: every Saturday twice the speed, three times the download every night, double speed the week of Christmas. The router looks every minute, by its own local time, and changes the speeds when a promotion starts or ends. Nobody has to be awake at 22:00 to turn it on.

Set them with dtvsol promo …, the API or the monitor’s Services tab.

What a promotion says

• Two promotions on the same plan do not multiply each other: the fastest wins, in each direction.
• A promotion never lowers a speed: a ceiling below a plan’s speed leaves the plan as it is.
• dtvsol promo at … (and the monitor’s time field) shows every plan’s speed at any moment, to check a promotion before it starts.

Where the speed goes up

Each subscriber’s speed is limited in one place (Plans and shaping):

• Subscribers the router shapes (shaper router): at once, when the promotion starts and ends.
• Subscribers the OLT limits (services — most of them): the router changes the speed of the OLT’s traffic tables in place, within a minute of the promotion starting or ending. The service-ports on a table follow at once; no ONT is touched or interrupted, and it costs a few writes per OLT whatever the number of subscribers.

A traffic table is changed only when it is safe:

• every service-port on it is one of this router’s services (on its S-VLAN) — another operator’s tables, and the OLT’s default ones, are never touched;
• all the plans on it want the same speed now. Two plans that share a table but not a promotion are a conflict: the table stays as it is, and dtvsol promo says so.

The router looks at the tables again every 30 minutes (an OLT restarted from its saved configuration, a table changed by hand), and five minutes after a change that failed; a failure is also an alarm.

dtvsol promo (and the monitor’s Services tab) shows every OLT table: its rate, the plans on it, and whether it is ok, changed, a conflict or shared.

Each plan its own tables

The router gives every plan its own traffic tables on the OLT, one for download and one for upload, so a promotion can raise one plan alone, in one direction. New services get them. Services made before are still on tables shared by speed:

Moving makes each service’s internet service-port again on its plan’s tables: each ONU loses its connection for a few seconds, one after the other. Do it in a quiet hour. Until then, a promotion still reaches a shared table whenever all its plans are raised alike (a promotion for every plan, the same in both directions).
